Many of the rules of modern society are dictated by fashion. It determines whether the law concerning the main functional feature of clothing will be observed – that clothing should adorn a person, not the other way round. Most people do not even think about which companies or brands they choose, and the deciding factor for them is the price of an item. Is it worth paying extra for the brand? And what is branded clothing for?

Usually, when they hear the phrase “branded clothing”, people immediately think it means an outrageously expensive, ultra-fashionable and exclusive item. But there is no reason to stop at that, because a brand by no means always denotes exclusivity and high cost. Although a great deal of designer clothing does attract its future owners by precisely this.

So why wear branded items?

As a rule, it is exactly the branded, high-quality items that can perfectly emphasise the features and merits of their owner. They help to show off the owner's individual spark and to present them to advantage. Quite often a person dressed in branded items has higher self-esteem, since they regard it as a marker of status. Although first and foremost such clothing wins through its quality and likely long service life; as a rule, it is made from high-quality, natural materials that provide maximum comfort and cosiness. Thus we see that the demands placed on branded clothing are quite high, since it is responsible for a person's individuality, and items by well-known designers are the ones expected to deliver it. 

Reasons for buying designer items

Sometimes people, even without having sufficient means, prefer – instead of simply buying an item in an online shop – to spend several of their salaries on acquiring, for example, an exclusive bag by a well-known brand. Women aged between 20 and 30 quite often decide to buy such items in order to stand out from the rest and to create the image of a prosperous life. Some do this to land their dream job or to better arrange their personal life. In this case such behaviour is typical of people with low self-esteem, who try to raise it by means of their outward appearance and their possessions.

So why do people acquire branded items?

• a desire to match their status outwardly, or an attempt to reach a certain desired status;

• in pursuit of society's approval of themselves and their actions;

• a wish to have influence over the people around them, who are likewise governed by possessions, and to rise in their estimation;

• to receive comments expressing nothing but admiration for their person and their appearance.

For many, shopping is a wonderful way to lift their mood, to gain a host of positive emotions, to free themselves from a bad, oppressive frame of mind. In that case it is appropriate to use it, but it should not be used as a substitute for improving and renewing one's inner world. After all, the growth of personal qualities depends only on working on oneself and in no way on the item a person is wearing.

It is sad to see when young people consider themselves masters of life merely because they have taken a designer handbag along to a party or put on ultra-fashionable shoes. In this case a substitution of life values takes place, which in the end may lead to mental disorders and disturbances of the nervous system. If such people were deprived of the opportunity to acquire absurdly expensive items, they would be deprived of the meaning of life. Sadly, over time they lose themselves as individuals and are wholly stripped of their individuality, becoming hostages of their favourite brand.

How to save money when buying branded clothing and how to determine its quality

The quality of a genuine branded item can be determined by its inner side, for it should be just as good as the outer one. It is precisely the inside that will show how high the quality of the seams is and how meticulously the tailors approached the making of the item. Global brands, as a rule, devote a great deal of attention to this, which is why it is only on fakes that you can see loose threads or crooked seams. On a designer item it is simply impossible to see this. The wish to obtain a quality element of one's wardrobe arises in practically everyone sooner or later, and then the question comes up: is it possible to acquire a branded item at a comparatively low price? Fortunately for many, towards the end of each season boutiques offer discounts of up to 70% on previous seasons' collections, so the opportunity is always there!

One cannot say unequivocally whether it is worth spending money and life on the pursuit of such things. Everyone chooses and makes the decision for themselves. The main thing is not to lose yourself and your personality in this pursuit!
